Lessons To Learn

Monday, February 6, 2006
Last Saturday morning, when I got up from bed and turned on the t.v., I was aghast with the terrible news that 74 people died of stampede in ULTRA, just a few minutes drive away from where we live. I flipped through the local channels but it was all that was shown. It was reported that people were already lined up in ULTRA even days before the anniversary special of that game show. They didn't mind sleeping on the street just so they could have a chance to win a cash prize to bring home to their families. Some of them even came from the province.

Nobody wanted that unholy event to happen, but it did. 74 people perished.

God has his reasons why He allowed it to happen. Maybe it's a wake up call for all of us. Maybe He wants us to learn something from it. We don't have all the answers, He does. This horrible event brought back to my memory what our pastor once said that it's better that we humble ourselves than God humbling us, because when we humble ourselves, we will be heartborken all right, but when God humbles us, we will be crushed.

Are we going to wait for God to humble us? Is this the hard lesson God wanted us to learn? Maybe... or maybe there's more.

I'm so sorry for those who lost loved ones.

My wife told me all about it the other day. But TFC didn't seem to carry too much on it. (Or maybe I just didn't watch it long enough)
It made me a little nervous about going to see Wow-Wow-Wee when we go there. My wife told me that someone yelled "BOMB", and that's what started the stampede. What did that person think would happen? It boggles the mind that someone would think it would be a funny joke to play.

So... other than that, how are the two of you doing?

Where is this exactly? I don't get television....and I haven't heard. Isn't that sad that I'm so out of sync with the real world? :D

It sounds horrible. People willing to spend nights outside waiting to get in....and then that. I do wish television and easy money were not such a part of our culture (not to critisize the dead by any means....but I can see where our culture had a part in this tragedy.)

I will be praying for those who lost loved ones....

Yesterday our pastor spoke on how we were to humble ourselves to God. It was such a powerful sermon. The last few weeks have been. I've been wondering if God is trying to tell us something with all the events in our area.

I haven't seen much news. My prayers go out to everyone who has lost someone. I'm thankful you and your family are ok.

Oh my! I didn't hear the news this weekend. We were all caught up with some personal bad news in the family. My heart breaks to hear this, though. I feel that God is humbling me through the unfortunate events in both my sons' lives right now. Maybe He's humbling them now so the outcome will be praise and glory to God in their hearts forever after!! I pray it will be so!!

Thanks for your thoughtful comments today. Very timely for me.

I thought of you when I heard this news last weekend. Such a tragedy! I can only pray that those 74 people had already given their lives to Jesus.

I will be praying for the Phillipines. This will be a terrible tragedy to recover from.

If we totally understood the mind of God and why certain things happen, we would be Him, and that would not be good.

But we can certainly pray for those left behind.

What a tragic loss. I believe that though God knows all the things that are going to happen, doesn't mean He lets them happen. When we humans chose the disobey God, it came with certain circumstances. I also believe that God can take the bad and turn it to good. Love and hugs and sooooo glad you were not harmed.

Love ya,

I tried to comment a few times the other day, but it wouldn't work, so I am back. It's probably just blogger being a booger.

About the post...it shows us how fragile life really is and turns our eyes to the spiritual. It's so sad.

This is a sad story. I also believe there is a positive message of love and hope after every lesson we learn, no matter how tragic or painful it is. With God there is a brighter tomorrow.

How terrible. Life can end in a moment when we least expect it. All anyone can do, is place their trust in the Lord, so that at the end of our journey, we won't be lost. Thanks for posting this. God bless.

a wake up call? God does use suffering to bring us to our senses -it's just awful to realise that If we would listen, humble ourselves and call on HIs name, he would heal us and our land(s)
1 Chr 7:14

Hope you are doing ok sis. Sorry I haven't been around here much.

hugs (((Pia)))
