The Power Of God's Word

"Is not my word like fire," declares the LORD, "and like a hammer that breaks a rock in pieces?" Jeremiah 23:29

I've been meditating on this verse since Friday evening last week. This was the verse quoted by one of Daystar's prayer partners while praying for me, the one I mentioned in my previous post.
God's word is that powerful! If we declare God's truth over our lives, it can change us and even our situation. No matter how impossible it looks like, God can turn it around for us. We can rely on His word because it never changes. His truth before is still truth now.

Have you found promises in the Bible that God is speaking to you right now? I wrote mine in a notebook. Let's declare it everyday and see how God transforms to our advantage whatever the enemy meant for our harm.

Actually, I have to admit that the first thing that came to mind when reading, 'breaks a rock in pieces' is the parallel to the human will. Through sufferings that God brings, we are transformed into the image of Christ. Long suffering is a fruit produced by the Spirit through us. What we may see as unpleasant circumstances, God may mean for our advantage as He molds us into His Son's image. It could very well be that when fighting the present trial, insteading of leaning into the pain, we are in truth fighting God and His purposes.

On the surface it has often been said that marriage is for our pleasure but in truth marriage can be a tool from which we are reshaped and learn to die to self. What better combination than to take two selfish human beings and teach them how to love perfectly through God within such a union. I know at least that agony having been going through it for 22 years and counting. What I sometimes see as regret and discouragement, God has used to shape me.

Just a heads up. If we want God to change the circumstances chances are He's going to start with us first. Ouch!

A promise I'm standing on is...
Philippians 1:6 (KJV)
Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ

audrey: yep, you were first. glad you were. =D

tey: whatever verse i get that God is speaking to me with, i list it down in a notebook. i read it as often as i could to remind myself of His promises in my life. it gets my focus off of my circumstance and into His truth.

amrita: prayed for you...

dawn: yep. glad you liked it.

sparrow: that's right, God's going to start changing us first. in my case, He already did and it's painful. but i do believe that after changing us, He'll do the things He planned to in our lives and in the process He gives us "light" through His word to help us walk the straight path. His word helps us to focus on His truth, which will set us free, instead of our circumstances. every word God speaks to our hearts guides us in living our everyday lives.

i guess that verse, when it was quoted to me, meant differently to how others understand it. God spoke to me about my circumstance by reminding me how powerful His words are. there are times when i have to read between the lines to get what God is trying to say and there are times when i can just take His word as it is.

i also declare that verse in philippians in my life everyday. love it. i even had that verse in my blog's heading. =D

nita: i love that verse too. i also remind myself everyday to be still and know that He is God. He is in control.

God has been reminding me about this lately:
2 Cor 5:17
Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come!

proverbs 3:5-6 - trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not to your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge God and He will direct your paths. this is a verse God speaks to me a lot.

you're right about how God's Word can mean one thing to me and another to you. a lot has to do with us and our circumstances. His Word is His Word, but because our circumstances are different, He may be saying one thing to you and something else to me, and it won't change the validity of His Word.
